Cephalotussidecolouredcopy

Cephalotus follicularis roots are thick and branching. They start off in a young plant as a single tap root with fibrous hair rootlets that over time produces creeping rhizome off-shoots that spread underground, on occasions surfacing to produce more leaves and pitchers.

The main root, as can been seen in the photograph, takes on a mahogany colour as it ages and gets quite thick and knobbly and woody. From it emerges over time new branches and shoots.
